India is extending a helping hand to other countries, while America has made new changes regarding travelers coming from abroad. The US has announced a new international travel system, under which only fully vaccinated people will get entry into the US from November. People from 33 countries including India will be allowed to enter after being fully vaccinated
India is among 33 countries from where fully vaccinated travelers will be allowed to enter. Covishield is the only India-made vaccine that is on the list of approved vaccines so far. From November, only fully vaccinated people from Europe's 26 Schengen countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, France and India, as well as Britain, Ireland, Greece, China, South Africa, Iran and Brazil, will be allowed air travel. Vaccines authorized by FDA or WHO will get permission
Shortly after the announcement, the White House clarified that the final decision on which vaccines would be accepted rested with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). America's top medical body said that a person will be considered 'fully vaccinated' against corona only if they have received an FDA-authorized jab or a World Health Organization (WHO)-authorized vaccine. Foreign nationals must present a certificate of vaccination before travelling. There will be no need to be quarantined when coming from outside.
WHO approved seven vaccines
So far only seven vaccines have been approved for use by the WHO. These include Moderna, Pfizer-BioNtech, Johnson & Johnson, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Covishield (Oxford-AstraZeneca formulations) and China's Sinofarm and Sinovac.
The indigenous Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech is yet to be approved as it is neither approved by WHO nor US FDA. Bharat Biotech has applied to WHO for approval of Covaxin, it is expected to be approved soon.
