1,222 oxygen plants likely to start before August 15, informed by Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra
New Delhi, Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra said on Wednesday that 1,222 Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) Oxygen Generation Plants have been sanctioned under the PM-CARES Fund and they are likely to be commissioned before August 15. Presently 300 PSA plants are functioning.
Addressing the real estate conference organized by CII, Durga Shankar said that the property sector has been affected a lot due to Corona epidemic. He said that the second wave has largely been controlled and now there is talk and apprehension about a possible third wave.
Durga Shankar said that the government had taken several steps last year to control the spread of the first wave of corona, including the national lockdown imposed in March 2020. Then the country did not have enough ventilators, PPE kits and medicines to deal with this epidemic. Despite this, the way the epidemic was controlled during the first wave is remarkable. India not only met the domestic demand but also provided medical supplies to other countries.
Referring to the second wave that came in April 2021, he said that the cases of infection had reached four lakh per day, which was about one lakh per day in the first wave. There was a lack of oxygen supply during this period, but the way the country coped with it is remarkable. To increase the supply of oxygen, Oxygen Express trains were run and the services of the Air Force were also taken. Referring to the contribution of the industry in increasing the oxygen supply, Durga Shankar said that we were able to control this big second wave in three months.
