ICC has decided the venue of the final of the World Test Championship, the title match of 2023 and 2025 will be held at Lord's
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has once again hosted England in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). On Tuesday, the ICC has fixed the venue of the finals of the next two World Test Championships. Both these matches will be played at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground in London.
"The IBC Board has approved Lord's Cricket Ground as the host of the ICC World Test Championship Finals in 2023 and 2025," the ICC said in an official media release. The final of the ICC World Test Championship was played for the first time in the year 2021. This match was also hosted by Lord's earlier. But due to Coronavirus, the venue of the final had to be changed, and later the match was played at the Ageas Bowl ground in Southampton. This match was played between India and New Zealand. New Zealand defeated India in this match and became the first champion of the World Test Championship.
Apart from this, the ICC has decided to host all the major tournaments from 2024 to 2027. According to the ICC, India will host the 2025 Women's World Cup. With this, the Women's World Cup is going to return to India after 12 years. The last women's World Cup was held in India in 2013. Australia won the title by defeating West Indies in the final played in Mumbai.
Apart from India, Bangladesh and England will host the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026, while Sri Lanka, subject to their qualification for the tournament, will host the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy in 2027. In the T20 World Cup tournament to be held in the month of June, the number of teams will increase from 10 to 12 and a total of 33 matches will be played. This will be the first time that the Women's T20 World Cup will be played in England.
