Know, what was the truth behind Kumbhakaran’s boon, due to which he remained in a state of sleep for 6 months

Kumbhakaran Story: Ravana’s younger brother Kumbhakaran is one of the several significant characters in the Ramayana, despite the fact that it primarily tells the tale of Rama and Ravana. Their father, Vishrava, was a Brahmin, and their mother, Kaikasi, was a demon. Because Vibhishan was influenced by his Brahmin father, he had more Brahminic traits, whereas Ravana possessed more of his mother’s demonic traits. However, Kumbhakaran had a demonic and Brahminic character since he was connected to both his parents.

How the boon came to Kumbhakaran

To get what they wanted, Ravana, Kumbhakaran, and their brother Vibhishan once took part in a difficult penance performed by Brahmadev. Kumbhakaran’s desire to consume a lot of food everywhere at this time was driven by his avarice for authority in heaven. The gods were really concerned about this desire. Maa Saraswati took on the duty of assisting the gods when they all went to Brahmadev. According to him, Kumbhakaran would be unable to speak when he asks for a boon because it will remain on his tongue.

Boon

Brahmadev appeared before him after he finished the challenging penance and urged him to beg for a boon of his choosing. However, just as Kumbhakaran opened his lips to utter “Indrasan,” Maa Saraswati sat on his tongue, causing “Nindrasan” to escape. Brahmadev agreed and stated that you would sleep for six months. In other words, you would sleep for six months, wake up for a day, and then sleep for another six months. According to Kumbhakaran, this blessing manifested as a curse. It was too late when he discovered Ravana’s wrongdoings since he used to sleep for six months, wake up for one day, and consume a lot of food.

When the Lankan demons informed Kumbhakaran that Ravana had abducted Sita Mata in Yuddhakand of the Ramayana, Kumbhakaran attempted to persuade Ravana as well, but Ravana interpreted his words negatively.

Kumbhakarana ultimately had to stand by his brother in spite of his transgressions, which caused him to battle Rama. Kumbhakarana also engaged in a fierce conflict with Rama, Lakshmana, and Jambavan throughout the conflict. He battled bravely, but a particularly potent arrow from Rama killed him despite his immense striking prowess.

Rama honored Kumbhakarana and commended his bravery after his passing. As a result, Kumbhakarana emerges as a singular figure in the Ramayana, renowned for his bravery and fraternal loyalty.
