In Hinduism, the slaughter of a demon named Raktbeej was the primary cause of Maa Kali’s wrath, also known as her Raudra form. It was an intense, uncontrollable rage that threatened the creation’s equilibrium. Raktbeej was a tremendously strong demon with the blessing that every drop of blood from his body would fall to the ground, creating a new demon that was just like him. The gods and goddesses were unable to murder him because of this blessing.

All the gods prayed to Maa Durga when Raktabeej wreaked devastation in the three realms after Mahishasura. Maa Durga saw throughout the conflict that the droplets of Raktabeej’s blood create thousands of young demons as soon as he is struck. In order to solve this issue, Maa Durga created Mahakali, another very strong and fearsome form, from her forehead.

The Killing of Raktbeej

Before Raktabeej’s corpse hit the ground, Maa Kali extended her enormous tongue and began sucking every drop of blood that came out of it. She annihilated Raktabeej and his army in this manner. Maa Kali was enraged even after murdering Raktabeej. She continued to advance while howling horribly and stomping on the demon bodies. All the gods and goddesses were terrified by this furious form of her, which was so awful that the universe’s equilibrium began to collapse. Nobody was brave enough to approach her and soothe her.

The Involvement of Mahadev

All of the gods appealed to Lord Shiva during the pandemonium, believing that only he could appease Maa Kali’s wrath. Lord Shiva came up with a novel solution in response to the gods’ petitions. In Maa Kali’s route, Lord Shiva fell down under her feet. Maa Kali abruptly stopped dancing in her furious form when she saw Mahadev lying under her feet. She knew she had made a mistake the moment she saw her spouse in this condition. Her fury instantly evaporated as her tongue fell out in embarrassment and regret.

Since then, Maa Kali has often been shown with her feet on Lord Shiva. In addition to symbolizing Maa Kali’s great strength, this image also demonstrates how prudence (Shiva) is necessary for power (Kali) to have any value and how the balance of creation can only be preserved when they work in tandem.
