Lord Shiva kills Andhakasura: A mythological story
Killing of Andhakasura: Shravan month is the most sacred month devoted to Lord Shiva. July 11 marked the beginning of this month, which will conclude on August 09, 2025. Many followers worship Lord Shiva, the God of destruction, and ask for his blessings throughout this sacred month of Sawan. To appease Mahadev, devotees engage in a variety of religious and spiritual practices, including pujas. Shiva is associated with the global act of destruction and is regarded as one of the Trimurtis, or the three highest manifestations of Brahman, in mainstream Hinduism. His wife is Parvati, and his home is Kailash. His celestial sons, Ganesha and Kartikeya, are likewise revered in the Hindu pantheon. Nandi, the celestial bull, is Shiva’s chariot.

No matter how evil his followers are, Shiva is known to often bestow blessings upon them. Because he is easily placated and has a pure heart, he is known as Bholenath. This implies that if you adore and love him, you may be sure of his compassion and love despite your imperfections. Let us share with you an intriguing tale about the birth of Andhak, Shiva’s son, in this article.
A drop of perspiration gave birth to Andhak
Once While trekking, Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva arrived at Kashi. Lord Shiva sat with his back to the east. Simultaneously, Parvati appeared from behind and used her hands to shut Lord Shiva’s eyes. In doing so, the whole planet was briefly enveloped in darkness. Shiva opened his third eye, which restored light to the planet, in order to preserve it. However, the heat caused Parvati to begin perspiring.
From those drips of perspiration sprung a kid. That youngster had a huge, frightening face. Mother Parvati questioned Lord Shiva about the child’s origins after seeing him. Lord Shiva referred to him as his son since he was born of perspiration. He was called Andhak because he was born in the dark. The demon Hiranyaksha eventually requested the blessing of having a son, and Lord Shiva gave him one called Andhaka. Andhaka became the ruler of the demons after growing up surrounded by them.
Andhaka had done penance and prayed to Lord Brahma for a boon that would only cause him to die when he gazed lustfully at his mother. Andhaka believed that because he had no mother, this would never occur. Andhaka became the monarch of the three realms after defeating the gods and receiving the boon.
He therefore believed that because he now had everything, he ought to get married. He made the decision to wed the world’s most attractive lady. Upon investigating, he discovered that Parvati, the princess of the mountains, who had sacrificed her father’s beauty to wed Shiva, was the most beautiful person in all three realms. He went to Parvati right away and asked her to marry him. Parvati summoned Shiva when he began removing her by force when she refused.
When Parvati called, Shiva showed up and introduced himself as Parvati’s son to Andhak. He murdered Andhak while saying this.
Lord Shiva’s third eye opened when?
First Time: Lord Shiva has opened his third eye for the third time. Devastation is always the result of the third eye opening. When Sati self-immolated and murdered her invitee Daksha, he first opened his third eye; in other words, he demolished a social order. He replaced Daksha’s head, brought all the dead back to life, and resumed his penance when he had calmed down.
Second Time: When Kamadeva attempted to enrage the Lord, Shiva opened his third eye for the second time, killing him. Here, he shattered Kamadeva’s lusts, but after he calmed down, he brought her back to life and wed Parvati.
Third Time: Andhak was born when Shiva opened his third eye. In this case, Andhaka’s blindness is more cerebral than physical since he cannot tell the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, or even between passion and love. He lashes out at his own mother in a moment of passion. Shiva, however, offers him the opportunity to lead a group of spirits when he acknowledges his error and makes amends.
