When did Yudhishthira reveal Draupadi’s shortcomings
When the Pandavas left the Hastinapur kingdom during the Mahabharata war, they decided to take their bodies to heaven. Draupadi and the other brothers set out towards the Himalayas. This journey was named Swargarohana (ascension). Draupadi was the first to be left on the journey. After crossing the challenging terrain around Badrinath, Draupadi fell down due to exhaustion and was unable to get up. Then her husband, Yudhishthira, told the other brothers why Draupadi was unable to complete this challenging journey to heaven.
First Flaw
At first, Yudhishthira said that Draupadi was delighted with her knowledge and charm. She thought she was the most intelligent and attractive. When a person becomes arrogant about something, he falls. Being proud of one’s wealth, charm, or intelligence is the biggest flaw. Draupadi’s arrogance prevented her from going to heaven.
Second Flaw
Draupadi was married to five men. In her life, all of them, the Pandavas, had equal importance. However, according to Yudhishthira, Draupadi did not love all her husbands equally. She loved Arjuna the most. According to Yudhishthira, having a special preference towards one and treating others unfairly is also a flaw. This inequality became a weakness in her test.
Third Flaw
According to Yudhishthira, Draupadi’s stubbornness was her third weakness. In response to Duryodhana’s insult, Draupadi had decided to take vengeance. She had promised to go on until Duryodhana’s thigh was injured. Due to this commitment and persistence, the war of Mahabharata broke out, resulting in the death of thousands of soldiers. Her persistence proved disastrous not only for her but for the entire planet.
Lessons of the story
This episode of Mahabharata shows that if a person has vices like arrogance, prejudice, and stubbornness, he cannot complete even the most important journey of life, despite his intelligence, strength, or beauty. Draupadi’s paradise trip was stopped midway due to these three vices.
