Why was this curse given

Mythology states that King Daksha had 27 daughters, all of whom he wed to the moon. King Daksha had demanded that Moon treat each of his 27 wives equally at this time. But Rohini was the one he was closest to. The other girls were not pleased with this and protested to King Daksha, their father. The Moon was then cursed by Daksha. He had TB as a result. In addition, the Moon’s phases all came to an end.

What was the genesis of the Moon?

The Agni Purana states that Brahma Ji first created Manas Putras before creating the cosmos. Anasuya, the daughter of Rishi Kardam, was married to one of them, Rishi Atri. And their kid is the Moon. Brahma commanded his Manas Putra Atri to enlarge the cosmos, according to the Padma Purana. Maharishi Atri began penance as soon as he received his order. One day during the penance, Maharishi’s eyes, which were extraordinarily brilliant, dropped a few droplets of water. The instructions then appeared as a lady who wanted to conceive a son and took the drops. However, the instructions abandoned them since they were unable to contain those drips. That abandoned womb became renowned as the Moon thanks to Brahma.

Moon was wed to Daksha’s daughters

When Lord Brahma considered constructing the cosmos, he first made Manas Putras, according to the Agni Purana tale. Rishi Atri was one of these Manas Putras. Anusuya, the daughter of Maharishi Kardam, was Atri’s spouse. Durvasa, Dattatreya, and Som were the names of the three sons of Goddess Anusuya. Moon is also known as Som.

Daksha Prajapati had twenty-seven daughters, according to legend. Chandradev was the husband of all of them, but Chandrama only had feelings for Rohini. Daksha Prajapati’s behavior infuriated his other daughters. They confided in their father about their suffering. Daksha Prajapati made several attempts to persuade Chandradev, but he refused.

How did the moon get relief from the curse?

Daksha became enraged and cursed Chandrama to have TB when he refused to listen to him despite his continuous attempts to convince him. Chandradev contracted TB right away as a result of this curse. His efforts to chill the ground and provide nectar ceased as soon as he contracted TB. Everything was in disarray. Sad Chandrama brought his grief to Brahmaji. Chandrama was invited to worship Lord Shiva by Brahmaji.

Lord Shiva was adored by Chandradev. He repeated the Mrityunjaya mantra 10 crore times and performed intense penance. Lord Shiva granted him immortality after being pleased with this chant. His words were, “Chandradev!” Don’t be sad. In addition to releasing you from the curse, my gift will safeguard Prajapati Daksha’s words. In response, Lord Shiva joyfully put the moon on his head, earning him the nickname Someshwar Nath.

According to God, one of your feet will grow in Shukla Paksha every day, whereas one of your feet will diminish every day in Krishna Paksha. You will so continue to experience full moonhood on each full moon day. With Lord Shankar’s grace, Chandradev was able to break free from the curse in this fashion.
