Who is Kuber Devta

Mythologically speaking, Kuber is Lankapati Ravana’s half-brother. Kuber became the next demon ruler after Ravana’s death. In addition, he is the Yaksha king. He is also known as Lokpal and is the Dikpal of the north. His mother was Devvarnini, and his father was Maharishi Vishrava. He has also been referred to as the deity of nine riches and the highest devotee of Lord Shiva. Kuber’s status as the deity of riches is based on several stories. He is said to have been a thief in a past life.

What is said in the Skanda Purana

According to the Skanda Purana, Lord Kuber was born into the Gunanidh Brahmin family in a prior life. However, he began stealing because of a weakness. His father pushed him out of the home after learning about this. He intended to take the prasad from the Shiva temple he came upon while out and about. There was a priest napping. Gunanidh put his towel in front of the bulb to prevent this. However, he was discovered stealing by the priest, and he was killed in the altercation.

When Yamdoot was delivering Gunanidh after death, Lord Shiva’s messengers were also arriving from the other side. In front of Bholenath, Lord Shiva’s emissaries brought Gunanidh. Bholenath believed that by spreading the towel, Gunanidh had prevented the light from going out for him. Lord Shiva was pleased with this and bestowed upon Gunanidh the title of Kuber. Additionally, he bestowed upon him the role of treasurer of the gods’ riches.

In the Ramayana, Kuber is described

In the Ramayana, Kuber Dev is also described. Kuber pondered in the Himalayas in order to appease Lord Shiva. Shiva and Parvati were seen during the meditation. With a tremendously sattvik sensation in his left eye, Kuber gazed at Parvati. Parvati’s holy brightness burned that eye till it became yellow. From there, Kuber stood up and moved somewhere. Kuber’s hard penance pleased Lord Shiva, who said, “Your penance has won me over.” You will be known as Ekaakshi Pingal since Parvati’s brightness ruined one of your eyes.
