Origin of Mahakali: Know for what purpose Maa Mahakali was born, you will be shocked to know the story
Origin of Mahakali: Kali Maa was created from the forehead of Mother Amba, the mother of the universe, according to the Shri Markandeya Purana and the Shri Durga Saptashati. According to the tale, the demons Shumbh-Nishumbh had become so terrifying that they drove out all the other gods, including Devraj Indra, using their might, cunning, and powerful demons. They then replaced them and left them to fend for themselves. After realizing that Mahishasur had seized control of Indrapuri, the gods were terrified by the demons and sought assistance from Durga. Then they all began calling upon Durga.

Killing of Chand-Mund
Devi showed up at their request and engaged in a bloody struggle to vanquish the two most formidable demons of Shumbh-Nishumbh, Chand and Mund. The demon king Shumbh was furious after Chand-Mund was killed in this way and a significant portion of his army was destroyed. He gave the order for his entire army to go to war, saying that eighty-six demon commanders, including Udayuddh and eighty-four Kambu demon commanders should depart for battle today with their army in tow. On my instructions, fifty demon leaders from the Kotivirya clan and one hundred from the Dhumr clan, together with their army and Kalak, Daurhrud, Maurya, and Kalkeya demons, should march for battle. With his massive army of thousands of demons, the very evil and terrible demon king Shumbh started out.
When the goddess saw his dreadful army of demons approaching the battlefield, she twanged her bow until the sound of it filled the whole earth and the sky. Mountains started to crack. The goddess’ lion began to roar as well, and Jagadambika combined that sound with the ring of the bell to double it. The sound of the bell, lyre, and bow echoed in all directions. The demon army encircled Maa Kali and the goddess’ lion from all sides upon hearing the horrifying noise. The powers of the ultimate lords Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Kartikeya, Indra, and others then assumed shape in order to destroy the demons and alleviate the gods of their suffering. Infinite powers then issued from each god’s body and used their force and might to approach Maa Durga.
Then, with all the forces at his side, Shiva addressed Goddess Jagadamba, saying, “To please me, you destroy all these demon groups.” Then, from the body of Goddess Jagadamba, Goddess Chandika emerged as Shakti, assuming a ferocious and fearsome shape. Hundreds of jackals could be heard in her voice.
Shumbh-Nishumbh, the demon rulers, were furious. They moved forward to engage in combat with Goddess Katyayani. They began assaulting the goddess with arrows, spears, tridents, axes, Rishi, and other weapons out of sheer rage. The Goddess cut off all the weapons that were advancing on her with her arrows and whirled her bow. After that, Maa Kali began to move about the battlefield, using her trident to pierce the opponents and her khatwang to crush them. She slew Raktbeej after she had slain Chand Munda and all the other demons.
The purpose of Shakti’s incarnation was to vanquish Raktbeej, a demon. When Kali Maa’s rage did not go away even after murdering Shumbh-Nishumbh, Lord Shiva laid down in her route and Kali Maa’s foot landed on his chest to ease her rage. The mother’s rage began to fade as soon as she stepped on Shiva.
The Killing of Raktbeej
Chandika from Ambika, Vaishnavi from Vishnu, Maheshwari from Mahesh, and Brahmi from Brahmaji’s body all made an appearance. In an instant, the sky was filled with many goddesses. The demons lost their luster as the Brahmin sprayed them with water from her water jug. Indrani used her thunderbolt, Maheshwari her trident, Vaishnavi her chakra, and all the goddesses their weapons. The army of demons began to flee.
Raktbeej then reprimanded the demons for fleeing because they were afraid of women. Indrani used her Shakti on Raktbeej as he attempted to attack, severing his skull and causing blood to spill onto the ground. However, another Raktbeej sprang from that blood and began to laugh loudly as a result of the prior boon’s influence. Demons sprang from his blood as soon as the Shakti murdered him. Soon, many Raktbeej began to show up everywhere.
Ma’am Chandika informed Shrikali that in order to stop new Raktbeej from being created, his blood must not drip to the earth. You all murder them, Goddess Kali said, and I won’t let a single drop of blood fall on the earth. As a result, the battle quickly claimed the lives of every new Raktbeej. After realizing that Kali was preventing his revival, Raktbeej rushed to murder Chandika. Kali prevented the blood from spilling over the floor when Chandika murdered him. Chandika began to be praised by the gods.
