Powers of Hanuman: Know why Hanuman Ji forgot his powers and who made him remember his powers

Powers of Hanuman: When Hanuman Ji got arrogant about his abilities during the Ramayana era, a Brahmin cursed him. He lost his ability to utilize his talents as a result. Following this, Jambavan (Jamvant) reminded Hanuman ji of his abilities when he had to go across the sea to Lanka in order to locate Mother Sita. A curse had caused Hanuman ji to forget his limitless abilities. In his early plays, Pawanputra Hanuman was a very strong and mischievous character. He sometimes unintentionally interfered with the penance of saints and sages because of his unrestricted authority.

Cause of forgetting abilities (Curse)

The folklore states that Hanuman Ji was once very hungry as a youngster. Thinking the Sun God was a large red fruit, he sprang into the air to consume it. Rahu had arrived to consume the Sun at that moment, and a solar eclipse was going to occur. Because he believed Rahu to be a little creature, Hanuman Ji also attempted to consume him. There was a commotion in each of the three realms.

Some sages were troubled by Hanuman Ji’s incredible and uncontrollable abilities and cursed him, saying, “You will forget your powers.” Only when someone reminds you of your magical abilities will you recall them. For Hanuman Ji’s benefit, this curse was placed so that he would not abuse his great abilities and would only use them when necessary. This curse caused Hanuman Ji to lose all memory of his incredible powers, such as his ability to fly, transform into a giant, and remain powerful as he grew older.

He was reminded of the abilities by whom?

The difficulty of traversing the huge ocean emerged during the Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama was on the shores of Lanka after Ravana had abducted Mother Sita. Nobody in the army of monkeys was strong enough to traverse such a vast ocean. Everyone was concerned. The most experienced and senior member of the monkey army, Jamwant, saw Hanuman Ji at that moment. From Hanuman’s birth to his early adventures, Jamwant was well-informed about him.

Jamwant visited Hanuman and told him about his early adventures. He informed Hanuman that he was the wind god’s son, swift like the wind, and very strong. In addition to reminding him of his powerful deeds, such as eating the sun, believing it to be a fruit, Jamwant also explained the sages’ curse that his abilities would only become apparent when he was reminded.

Hanuman recalled all of his abilities upon hearing Jamwant’s comments. He took on his enormous appearance as his body began to develop. It was only after this that he accomplished the amazing feat of traveling across the seas to reach Lanka. Therefore, it was Jamwant who reminded Hanuman of his ability to sleep, and he went on to do several heroic feats to ensure the completion of Lord Rama’s mission.
